A REPORT ON THE EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE AT ANUM SENIOR HIGH (ANSEC),GHANA
The recent educational conference organized by Foundation for Africa Youth Development International (FAYDI) was awe inspiring, challenging and a memorable one as students chant the slogan “FAYDI-championing Africa excellence now” in joy and admiration. The conference lasted for three days from 25 to 27 May, 2011, with each day having a unique and special program designed to challenge and inspire excellence among the students and their masters. On Wednesday evening which marked the first day of the conference, the atmosphere of Anum Presby Senior High (ANSEC) changed, as the chaplain, masters, and students of the school pooled themselves together in preparation of their auditorium for the start of the Educational Conference. The conference started at exactly 6:30pm with two inspirational songs from the Mighty Sparks the Frontline Line singing groups of the school, which charged the atmosphere making it conducive for the conference. The theme for the conference was “You are the key to excellence.” The first presentation was captioned “The Challenge to Excellence” by the president of FAYDI Samuel Sarpaning. This first presentation sparked a new revolution and spirit of excellence among the student body as news reached the town causing the day students to come in their numbers the next night. Interview conducted by FAYDI president reveals that, the first presentation has opened their horizon to new light as to how they can become the touch bearers of Africa. They have now come to grasp that, students have to be part of the solution in transforming the African situation, and there is no reason to wait until after school. They now therefore, passionately believe that the change that Africa needs today can be (or must be) brought about by its young people. The second night presentation was done by Mr. Dominic Damoah, (Research Director, Institute of Computer Science, Valley View University). He gave a presentation on the topics "Meaningful Learning with Technology" and "Become the most successful student you can be." This presentation immediately sparked the idea of building a website, and e-learning for the school. This is to help enhance their academic work in the school. On the third day, one of the representative of Oman FM and NET 2 TV was invited to interview the Head Master of the School on the school’s achievement so far and the challenges it is facing and also his observation so far on the Educational Conference. The interview revealed that, so far the school is making inroad to the top; its result revealed a percentage of 98% passing their exams. On the challenges the school is facing, the Head Master emphasized on water being the main problem, as there are no pipe lines leading to the dormitories and Masters Bungalows. FAYDI pledged to solicit money to help address the problem of water which fights against academic work in the school since it also engage in developmental projects. FAYDI president was interviewed by the Oman FM delegate on the purpose and intent of FAYDI for the nation Ghana and the continent at large, and this was aired alongside that of the interview with the Head Master of ANSEC. The Head Master thanked FAYDI organization for the Educational Conference it held for the students and also their commitment to help make mother Ghana realize its vision of championing Africa excellence. He therefore edged the foundation to keep on with the good work it has started. FAYDI team also visited the school administration to understudy their operations. Observation from the study indicated that, there was an urgent need for a software to be created to cater for and enhanced their administrative work for a more effective and efficient work. All these were needed in order to hasten academic excellence in the school, of which the IT branch of FAYDI decided to provide that to the school with no charge. FAYDI team proceeded to the computer lab to present the designed website for the school to the master in charge of IT, Mr. Osei. The IT department thanked FAYDI organization for the kind gesture extended to them.
Finally, a club was opened with leaders and a sponsor, Mr. Shardey to sustain the influence of FAYDI in the school. The current membership of the club is about 260 people.
The educational conference organized by FAYDI at Anum Presby Senior High was a successful one, and will go down into the annals of the school and that of FAYDI. Pictures and interviews from the conference are attached to buttress this report.
